That seemed an appropriate Valentine's card for his Mate. It was left on her kitchen table to be found at leisure with a small book of scratch off adventures; essentially a booklet of date ideas, though picking which one would always be a game of chance.

“Your hands are cold.”

Flip glanced away from the copy of The Man in the Iron Mask floating a few inches above her face. She hadn’t realized that Castiel had woken up. For the last several hours he’d been in a fitful doze, leaning against her on the large sofa in the Rexford hideout. Being out and about in poor weather had pushed his relatively new Human immune system far too hard. He had a terrible flu. She’d given thought to calling one of the Healer Sprites, but decided that it was probably more beneficial for the man to ride it out and build up a resistance to the illness. Who knew if he’d ever get his Grace back…

One of her hands had been resting on atop his head while he’d snored softly into her shoulder. He was right, of course. Flip’s body temperature was well below what a Human resting temp would be, though she often raised her heat levels when sizing up into a Big Person disguise. Today, though, after waiting for him to sleep, she’d let it fall once more to a natural state in hopes of reducing his fever.

“Sorry. You’re still pretty over-warm, ne?” Flip re-raised her body temperature, if only a bit. “Probably about time you took a fever reducer.”

Castiel curled hard into the throw blanket when Flip slid off of the sofa and waved her book off to drift onto a side table. She fished in the grocery bag of meds she’d picked up from the drugstore in town, but none of them seemed to be perfect for his symptoms. She supposed she would just have to mix an amount of Fae potions into his doses for the best effect without over-taxing his organs.

“Drink this.” she pressed a highball glass of fizzing blue fluid to his cheek until Castiel begrudgingly sat up to take it. “It tastes like cherries and moss, but it’ll help. Sheesh. Barely been dating a month, and here you are trying to slough off your mortal coil already. I see how it is, hmhm…”

True to a fault, Castiel scrunched his nose, but downed the potion despite the peculiar flavor. He sat the glass down on the floor, closed his dulled eyes, and held open the blanket for Flip to crawl back in. He was relieved to find that she was once again pleasantly warm, so unconsciously he wrapped their ankles together to prevent her leaving. Some muffled Enochain was mumbled into her side.

“Enunciate, Cas, you’re killing me.” Flip scoffed.

“I don’t want to leave the mortal coil. I am… saddened when you self-deprecate in jokes so often.” he yawned, earning a complicated expression from the Fairy. “You are a balm for stresses. You are empathy and strength. Even in a state as this, I would still claim to know better than most how to recognize… that you are a miracle.”

How do much do I ship it?: Never heard of it/ Notp / Dislike / used to ship / maybe / ship it / aww / otp / IS IT CANON YET?

What non sexual activities do they like to do together? They like to lie on the roof of whatever building they happen to be occupying at the time and stargaze. They also like to indulge in watching rubbish on television, baking together, and playing card and board games.

Who does chores around the house? Chores?! Unnecessary when Flip can use her fairy magic to get things clean.

Who’s the better cook? Flip, because she has more experience with food. Although he doesn’t technically need to eat to sustain himself, Cas is learning to bake and cook because she’s teaching him. He’s loving discovering the joy of food for himself.

Who’s the funniest drunk? - Cas, definitely. All the squinting and slurring, its very endearing. He’s priceless.

Do they have kids? No. Jil would love to be Godmother if they did, though. ;D

Do they have any traditions? They’re a fairly new couple, so they’re still trying things out. Traditions take time, but I have no doubt they’ll have them before long.

What do they fight about? Flip loves to tease. It’s her nature. Sometimes I think Cas thinks that she takes it a bit too far and actually gets slightly hurt. But she’s quick to reassure him, and he’s quick to forgive her. I think this is happening less as their relationship develops. He’s learning to appreciate that a little teasing can be a fun thing, and even tries to partake in it himself.

What would they do if they found their paring tag on tumblr? (If they have one) Priceless! Cas would instantly want to die of embarrassment and stay locked in a toilet for all eternity. He’d refuse to look, blushing furiously at the very idea. Flip would make some popcorn and read every word. Some of it out loud just to fluster him further.

Who cried at the end of Marley and me? Cas. Flip would tease him about it, but she’d also smother him in kisses and make a fuss of him until he was smiling again.

Who always wins at Mario kart? Flip. She cheats shamelessly. Once Cas figured out which way to hold the controller, he actually started to get better. Flip can’t let him win, of course, so she’ll let her shirt ‘slip’ down off of her shoulder, or blow in his ear to make him drive off course.

One thing I like about this ship? Everything. They were meant to be, I’m convinced of it.

One thing I don’t like about the ship? Nothing! Perfect for each other.

How rare it was that both couples could enjoy a night together now. No drama from Angelic wars, no Nightmare barrier renewals, no proper responsibility aside from the efforts it took to set up a modest meal. The night air was crisp and cold if anyone moved back away from the bonfire. Thankfully, there was little reason to.

Jilomena used a long stick to rotate the cooking crane enough that the cauldron of mulled wine could be ladled out into the enamel camping mugs they’d tucked away into a picnic basket. She then cuddled back into the hammock she shared with Metatron, tucked comfortably into his left wing. Being Human, she was feeling the effects of her fourth cup far more than the two Angels or the Fairy in her company, but as long as her significant other kept her staggering over into the fire like a Salem fire log, she would be fine.

“Are you warm enough in that wingpit, Jilly bean?” Flip teased.

“Yes. Yes I am. What of it?” Jil huffed, wiggling deeper into the swath of white feathers. “I notice your mate won’t let you anywhere near his.”

Flip sighed and put one lavender wrist to her forehead in an exaggerated swoon from her perch on a low-hanging branch.

“I know. He doesn’t love me enough.” she warbled. “Here it is, dead of winter, eight million feet of snow on the ground…”

“Ahem,” Castiel interjected quietly, returning from the wood pile to toss more fuel on the fire. “One: you prefer the cold. Two: it has barely begun to snow. And three-” he squinted an accusing glare in her direction. “You lick if you’re close enough to the joint. Every time.”

“Pshh… how would you know? You weren’t there, ne~” Flip scoffed.

“I wasn’t th…? It happened to me. Of course I was there.” Cas replied pointedly.

Jilomena grinned into the Metatron’s chest, fully amused by the nonsense. Her mate rolled his eyes affectionately and curled his wing tighter around her. The banter between his brother and his mate’s best friend always tended towards the bizarre.

“I mean it sounds like something I would do, but-”

“Flippitin, did you lick me in my ‘wingpit’? Repeatedly?”

Bound by Sprite folklore, of course, Flip had to answer truthfully when asked a direct question with no room for avoidance. With a trilling Fae noise of disapproval, she nodded. Cas gave her a cool, appraising expression.

“Well, ‘course I did. You’re a cure wiggler. I like the way it makes your Grace spark up. Fireworks. It’s pretty, ah?”

‘A joyous Christmas to you too, Cas!’ Jil threw her arms around his neck for a big hug before she’d even gotten through the doorway.

‘Yes. Joyous Christmas, Brother.’ The Metatron nodded in greeting.

‘Hey Flip! Happy Holidays! Don’t stand on ceremony; he never stood on us.’ Jil snorted laughter as she returned the hip bump. She took the offered seat, eyes shining.

‘We’ve had a very lovely day thus far, thank you, Brother.’ Met put the last present on the table and took the seat next to you. ‘Thank you for your most thoughtful gifts, I shan’t want for something to read for quite some time.’

‘Yes! It’s been a fab day so far,’ Jil cheered. ‘Thank you both for the awesome gifts! We love them! I hope you like what we’ve gotten for you, as well…’

Jil and Met had gotten Flip and Cas a movie night set featuring a popcorn bucket, corn for popping, and two prosecco glasses, a gift certificate for dinner for two at a nearby restaurant, and a certificate to go cave trampolining, a gift Jil thought Flip in particular would like.

For Flip, there was a Pandora bracelet with a ‘best friend’ charm, and for Cas there was a set of CDs featuring music sung by the St Paul’s cathedral choir.

Castiel, by and by getting more used to physical contact, returned the embrace a bit more naturally than usual.

"You are welcome. Flip was insistent that our gifts be hidden away rather than under your tree. Something about only socks being allowed underneath, which seems an unusual tradition to me, but most of these traditions are odd." he admitted. "I hope you found your cabinet to be festive enough."

Flip didn't take long to return, wearing a forest green open shoulder blouse and black leggings with absurd glittering penguin socks.

"Let's have a look, yeah?" Flip ripped through the paper and ooh'ed over the bracelet, smooching Jil's cheek like an old lady. "Shiny! And date night stuff! And bouncy day out! Thanks much!"

Castiel was more careful in opening his cds, eyes shining happily from the thoughtful gesture.

"I am sure this will be glorious to hear. Thank you."

Once the festive mess had been tidied, Flip slung an arm over Jil, while Castiel took a seat at the opposite end of the couch.

Castiel also plays Sims, Jil, though he does it because he gets lonely waiting for people to be done sleeping.

Jil/Alan

Who accidentally pushes a door instead of pulling/vice versa - Alan. Jil has to roll her lips in and try not to laugh because he can be over dramatic about it, saying it didn’t go that way the last time they were there.

Who doodles little hearts all over the desk with their initials inside them - Jil does. She does it only in the corner, so it’s not easily spotted by company. Alan notices though. It’s equal parts endearing and a prompt for punishment because that was hand carved mahogany, Jilomena!

Who starts the tickle fights - It goes both ways. Usually it’s Alan walking up behind her while she washes dishes to give a quick rib-goosing, or Jil snuggling up to Alan when he’s half dozing on the sofa to creep-crawl her fingers under his shirt.

Who starts the pillow fights - Jil might chuck one at Alan from across the room to see if she can get a rise out of him.

Who falls asleep last, watching the other with a small affectionate smile - Alan does. Jil works hard to keep the household together, and often she’ll doze off before he does. He’ll follow up with a kiss to the crown of her head and slowly slip into sleep as well.

Who mistakes salt for sugar - Alan, but only because one of the kids put salt in the sugar bowl. It’s hard to tell which one did it, since there are 917 of them.

Who lets the microwave play the loud beeping sound at 1am in the morning - Alan, heating up popcorn for late night movies when they chance to have the energy for it. It usually wakes the baby, so it becomes movie night for three.

Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines - Jil does. You’d expect Alan, but it’s usually Jil whispering sweet nothings like, “Baby, you are so sweet you might as well be her majesty’s sugar barnet~”

Who rearranges the bookshelf in alphabetical order - Alan rearranges the books because Jil leaves them stacked by the bedside when she has insomnia and doesn’t want to wake him.

Who licks the spoon when they’re baking brownies - Jil does. She claims that she already washed it when the kids come in looking for spoon licking rights.

Who buys candles for dinners even though there’s no special occasion - Both. They have too many candles now. They might as well be the new Yankee Candle Shop. But, you know… British. So Cobbler’s Knob Candle Shop or something like that.

Who draws little tattoos on the other with a pen - Jil draws little hearts on Alan’s wrist before a premiere, so he can look at it and think of her when he’s overwhelmed by fans.

Who comes home with a new souvenir magnet every time they go on vacation - Jil picks up a new cat themed magnet whenever they’re on holiday. They have the unmanliest refrigerator in all of London.

Who convinces the other to fill out those couple surveys in the back of magazines - Jil fills them out first, then makes Alan do it so they can compare answers.

But they’re random places like elementary school desks. Cas finds them at random when he’s on missions in different places around the world and has a moment of gooey heart feelings.

Who starts the tickle fights - Flip. When Cas is involved, it’s usually sneaky and light, building to him getting wrecked. Cas doesn’t seem to mind that much, as he’s mostly confused by the sensation. It makes people laugh, and that’s a sign of mirth, right? It’s like a physical joke, he supposes, and afterward his Vessel is flooded with endorphins which make him feel nice.

Who starts the pillow fights - Cas, surprisingly. It’s one of the few playful things that he fully understands. He spouts battle tactics as though he’s leading a battalion against Flip, and she finds that hilarious.

Who falls asleep last, watching the other with a small affectionate smile - Cas doesn’t technically need sleep, so when Flip happens to sleep in his presence from time to time, he can take the time to admire the way she looks at peace.

Who mistakes salt for sugar - Neither of them. They can both smell the molecular makeup of each one.
