Book of the Week
Tam Lin by Pamela Dean, Terri Windling (Introduction)
“In the ancient Scottish ballad Tam Lin, headstrong Janet defies Tam Lin to walk in her own land of Carterhaugh . . . and then must battle the Queen of Faery for possession of her lover’s body and soul.
In this version of Tam Lin
Janet is a college student, "Carterhaugh" is Carter Hall at the university where her father teaches, and Tam Lin is a boy named Thomas Lane.
The book is set against the backdrop of the early 1970s.”
cover concept for a comic based on the ballad Tam Lin.
Pre-Order Spring & Charity Candles!
Hey all! Dropping a note to say that the pre-orders for the first wave of glittery Spring candles are live on the Sihaya & Company site! The first collection is an expansion of the Spring collection from last year. Three returning scents and two new ones!
ANTIQUE SANDALWOOD & MADAGASCAR VANILLA BLUEBERRY MUFFINS & LEMON SUGAR GINGER & WILD PEACH HONEYCOMB & SATSUMA ORANGE LAVENDER & CREAM ____________ The second collection is very near and dear to my heart. It is a charity collection, and the entire profit ($5 per candle) will be donated to Planned Parenthood in memory of my dear friend Abigail of Tam-Lin.org, who passed away this past November. The stunning artwork was done by Joanna Barnum.
JANET: The scent of a woman who knows her own mind, and whose courage saved the life of her one true love. Two freshly-plucked roses and worn brown saddle leather.
TAM LIN: The scent of an earthly knight, ensnared by the fae and doomed to a grisly fate. Tart juniper berry, green apple, woodland vines, and cassia spice.
THE FAERY QUEEN: Beauty and power that makes your blood run cold. Night-blooming flowers, a moonlit path, and a dribble of something sinister.
As usual, these candles will be decorated in a beautiful shimmering glitter overspray!
Pre-order yours at Sihaya & Company!

"But Carterhaugh is not your own
Roses there are many
I'll come and go all as I please
And not ask leave of any"
For the Tam Lin Month prompt "Carterhaugh."
You’ve gotta tell me that there’s a hall called Carter Hall as in Carterhaugh from Tam Lin
It’s not the official name of the building the English department is in, but from the number of times the sign has been vandalized to say that, it may as well be.
The ballad of Tam Lin comes from the Selkirk region of Scotland, and Carterhaugh is a real place, near the confluence of the Ettrick and Yarrow rivers. If you can’t go see it in person, you can still take a virtual tour.
