CLIMBER SKETCH DUMP!!!! ft princess climber
unrelated yap: i feel like the movie and musical adaptations of heathers shouldn't be compared to each other as if they're the same thing, honestly. they're so wildly different that it's like comparing apples to oranges. this isn't an argument as to which is better of course. it's just noting what makes each of them unique! while they're both heavy and emotional, the movie is raw---unforgiving, edgy, and certainly a product of its time. the musical is more light (while still tackling its dark subject matter) and i feel as though it appeals to a different audience entirely. the musical almost wants you to sympathize or feel for JD, while the movie tries its absolute best to paint him as a monster. the musical honestly watered him down a lot to the point where he doesn't feel as scary, he just seems angry and obsessive. well i mean, he seems angry and obsessive in the movie too of course, just in a different way. and realistically, he was butchered in the musical if we try to see the two as the same thing. but we shouldn't, therefore this new JD character unlike what we've seen before, is pretty neat. i do believe keeping him a flat character is a more tasteful approach considering he's committing a mass attack on a bunch of teens and teachers, but it's *theater*, and a musical wouldn't be a musical without a tragic song about an icey, syrupy coping mechanism of course. those are just my thoughts, but i would turtlely love to hear what anyone else might think about it!!!!!!!!!
one wheat wip that i will NEVVA finish #sorry
