Between firsts and lasts, it doesnât seem to be the last time theyâll ever meet. Heâs come across Ben a few times already, and he understands it, childish curiosity, much like himself, but that doesnât mean that a kid should be poking around dangerous places that risk death, superpowered or not. It feels almost unfair, children burdened with these certain gifts that can be misused at any point, abused, hunted, carrying this weight on their shoulders to be âhelpfulâ when they should be...kids. Heâs aware of those that are after him, the ones who carry lighters around in their back pocket, ready to burn wood as easily as they are willing to burn a whole city down with them. They certainly wonât have any qualms with the ashes of children, either.
âYou need to stop poking around just âcause you hear about it on the news,â Carson chides, rubbing his forehead. Heâs yet to tell the kid who he is exactly, because...that would defeat the purpose of a secret identity as a vigilante, wouldnât it? The only person who knows is Ollie, but he trusts him implicitly; itâs different for this kid. Woodsbane only. âArenât you in school? You should be focusinâ on that, not sniffing around where you shouldnât be.â As if he hasnât been getting his own ass kicked around every so often. Itâs not like he knows how to fight fight. Carson can throw a punch, but the ones running crime in the streets know more than that. His powers do help, but he knows he canât solely rely on powers alone. Hitting the ground running and gunning and improvising seems to be working for now. âOr even better, just stuff your nose in a book.â
