This fantastic gold and teal armor with leopard fur underneath is a great example of costume reuse. On first glance, it would appear that it was first worn by Richard Burton in character as Mark Antony in πͺππππππππ, and then worn the next year by Sidney James, also playing Mark Antony in πͺππππ πΆπ πͺπππ. Β However, close inspection of the costume reveals some differences in the decoration of the armor. One could easily assume that changes were made between the two productions to give the costume a different look, as this is certainly something that happens often. But, when Burtonβs original costume came up for auction, clearly still intact, it was clear that these two costumes were not the sameβ¦or at least, not the πππππ same costume. Β That being said, they are still very clearly πππππ on the same costume, and itβs not unlikely that Sid wore πππ of Burtonβs costumes (of which there would have been multiples), or at the very least, the costume worn by Burtonβs stunt double or a stand-in. While they arenβt the exact same costume, they are so close in design that itβs safe to say that they originated from the same production - πͺππππππππ - which was mired in controversy, had two different costume designers, and multiple cast changes, leaving costumes from the production scattered through CinecittΓ studios Rome, Pinewood studios in England, and Fox Studios in Los Angeles, making tracking the individual pieces difficult.
