âIf a material is liquid ⌠I can control it but I donât really want to change it. Eva Hesse (1936-1970) was a highly experimental artist who continually challenged the conventions of her time. For Hesse, drawing played a unique role, providing the nexus between her works in all media. "Eva Hesse Drawing" is the first book to explore her drawing process, following her work from drawing to painting and sculpture, and always back to drawing. An accomplished draftswoman, Hesse began to develop her wandering, tentative line while studying at Yale University in the late 1950s. (summarized from the publisherâs note)

Henry Fitzroy, 1st Duke of Richmond & Somerset was born . âź Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Richmond and Somerset, was the illegitimate son of Henry VIII by Elizabeth Blount, a lady-in-waiting to Katharine of Aragon. . âź Henry was given the surname âFitzRoyâ to make sure that all knew he was son of the King (FitzRoy is an Anglo-Norman name originally meaning âson of the kingâ.) . âź The child was officially acknowledged by the King after the early deaths of the three sons born to the Queen. . âź Following his divorce from Katharine of Aragon & his subsequent marriage to Anne Boleyn, Henry VIIIâs attachment to Henry Fitzroy assumed a greater significance, particularly when his second wife also failed to produce a male heir. . âź Appointed Knight of the Garter in 1525 & made Duke of Richmond & Somerset in the same year, Henry Fitzroy was given several important positions, including that of Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. . âź His education was entrusted to the distinguished classical scholar Richard Croke, who had taught Greek to Henry VIII, & was extended by attendance at the court of Francis I in France for eleven months in 1532. . âź âź At the of age 14, on 28 November 1533 the Duke married Lady Mary Howard, the only daughter of Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk.
