Catβs Cradle, a carousel artistsβ book by Julie Chen was created using the Artistsβ Book Ideation Cards we featured in last weekβs artistsβ book highlight. This book was created using the deck and displayed in the 2013 exhibitionΒ 'Ideation by Chance.' βThe cards drawn for Cat's Cradle included the following: Text: self-generated, Imagery: none, Paper: neutral, Color: least favorite, Technique: digital, Layout: across the fold, Structure: Innovative binding, Adjectives: mysterious, spiritual, encyclopedic, organic, lyrical." --Flying Fish Press.
Constructed in a carousel structure with 5 spreads, each with 3 overlapping concertina folds with 3D scenes and laser-cut elements, Catβs Cradle can be read linearly or circularly. As both object and book, this imaginative tome discusses the nature of existence through its text and form. It brings to mind the circular meanderings of the creative process, too, from itβs inspiration by another book arts project and the unique interpretations each artist brings to their work.Β
