Platte County Fair

        Não entendia exatamente de onde tinha vindo aquela simpatia e a sinceridade extremas que tinha demonstrado com Danbi até então; sim, ele se esforçava para ser simpático com todos, mas ter contado parte de seu passado para alguém (ainda que uma parte nada grave, perto do que poderia ser) era algo novo. Talvez seu sexto sentido tivesse percebido que tinha mais coisas em comum com a mulher do que imaginava; e gostava da amizade que começava a nascer daquela troca de confiança, na verdade. Daniel era do tipo que, mesmo sendo gentil e disfarçando bem isso, demorava demais para considerar alguém o suficiente para doar o melhor lado de si; mas, desde o início, estava disposto a fazer isso com a mais velha.

        Tinha escolhido um parque de diversões para o encontro com ela por um motivo bem simples: por mais clichê que a ideia fosse, sabia que ela funcionava. Danbi tinha reclamado de ter tido um dia ruim, e sua missão ali seria distraí-la daquilo. Depois de buscá-la, até manteve mistério por algum tempo sobre o destino escolhido, mas não teria como fazê-lo por muito tempo quando, ao se aproximarem do mesmo, as luzes coloridas se tornavam difíceis de ignorar. “Pronto, você pode me chamar de previsível agora.” Brincou, fitando-a por um instante apenas, ainda atento ao trânsito, procurando uma vaga para estacionar; feito isso, desceu do carro e deu a volta no mesmo para abrir a porta para a mais velha, lhe estendendo uma mão para que ela se apoiasse para sair. “Mas achei que era um ótimo lugar pra você se esquecer do que quer que tenha acontecido hoje.”

When Dean was younger his dad took him to his first carnival. The bright lights and loud noises had entraced Dean, making him gaze around in awe at everythign which, at the time, had seemed so huge and magnificent. He had stared open mouthed at all the people who had walked past. They all carried stuffed toys in the shapes of animals and clowns and large amounts of bright pink cotton candy. Everyone laughed and shouted out to others. It was quite a sight.

John had strict rules for Dean if he was going to be allowed to stay here. First of all, no wondering off. Like any good dad John worried for his sons safety, and being a hunter didn't exactly help his cause. He knew that Dean was already in love with all the rides and attractions the carnival had to offer but he had to be tough with him. He could not let anything happen to him while he was here. Under no surcumstances was Dean to be let out of his sight.

Somehow during all of this, Dean got seperated from his dad. The little boy remained calm and just moved over to the railing between some of the stands. One of the carnival folk started talking to him. Dean chatted back as casually as he would talk to his dad. When his father eventually found him he was frantic. The whole carpark had been scoured for his little boy and then he had been standing not five feet from where he had gotten lost. Figures.

By the end of the evening they had collected quite an assortment. Dean had won a couple of the games and had gotten to pick some of the prizes. Among his colllection were a huge stuffed lion and toy gun and some candy. But the night was not over yet. Dean sat up on his dads shoulders as she watched the fireworks go out overhead. The wonderful blues, green, pinks, purples, reds and goals lit up the navy sky. Hundreds of sparks filled the sky as the carnival came to a close. Soon the popping faded and the only sound to be heard was the slowly dying music of the fair as everything slowed down to a stop.
