voice speaks in an obviously exaggerated and forced lower register, intended to mock the park ranger with whom lamia had spoken only minutes beforehand. her pretense is tailed by something of a half laugh, half snort.

"Maltti on valttia," the witch mutters, sighs, and at last rolls her eyes before lapsing back into silence. it is ultimately decided that fifteen minutes, give or take, off the trail should be enough. too much deeper and she might get lost, but it ought to be far enough to avoid any sort of disturbance should one arise. it seems, however, that one might already be present, because once she ceases to move her feet she warily concludes that there'd been rustling nearby. plenty of small animals in these woods, sure, but despite distance applying its damper that had certainly not been the rustle of any small critter.
