Leave Me - gimme that good Pain dosage
leave me.
“I do not wish to see you.”
She hurls the words at his feet - and they hiss like acid against the white bone floor of her throne room; pale and guzzling, like writhing bodies. So putrid and deathly is Helen’s wrath.
Cedric has defied his orders and come to Kova alone. He comes unadorned, bearing nothing upon him but that crown of heavenly gold; that sheen of divinity she is only half-privy to. He comes gently, without ill will - and he comes laden with a remorse so heavy and raw he dares not speak of it aloud. Give the sorrow in his chest a name, and it might tear out of him to kneel once more at Helen’s feet.
“We will not pursue you further,” Cedric begins.
“Leave.”
“My princess has agreed to withdraw all forces from - ”
“Your princess?” She pitches herself forward from the throne, agonized and maniacal. Long coils of her loose black hair pool around her like witchery. She begins to laugh. “My gods, it’s as if you’ve forgotten everything you promised me. Everything we promised each other.”
“Helen - ”
“You dare call me that again,” she howls. “You traitor - you treacherous, blind creature - I would have forged you an empire. An empire. Do you understand?”
“You’d have built something far worse,” Cedric says.
“Leave me.”
“Selene will receive your surrender with open arms, Lan has already outlined very fair terms for - ”
Helen begins to shriek. It is a frightful, broken sound: the cry of a madwoman, unyielding in her shattered fury. It is a song with bared fangs; the noise a heart might make when it has been handled too harshly. This is not a scream a god would know how to summon from the gut. No.
“Leave!”
Helen screams and screams, and every terrible moment it lives on between them is a reminder of her mortality; and how dearly she has suffered at the hands of being touchable, breakable.
( Cedric leaves. )
