Once again, it is David Bowie's birthday, and so once again I have celebrated the occasion of his arrival to our sphere of reality by painting his portrait. This year's Bowie painting is based on the music video for "Heroes", from 1977. 

Goodsir is one of three dark-haired heavily-sideburned characters; he is distinguishable from the other two by being seen mainly in a medical context at first, and being made entirely of sweet kindness and tired compassion.

Basically, if you’re looking at a dark curly man, wondering who he is, ask yourself ‘does it seem like he should be named Harry Goodsir?’ and if the answer is yes, he probably is.

Rankin-Bass was the studio that made the animated Hobbit, The Last Unicorn, and all those stop-motion Christmas specials.  I dunno, there’s just something about him that feels like a 1970s animated hobbit.
