If you encounter a threat, do not default to silence. If someone needs shelter, become walls. If someone reaches for harm, step between. If someone says, “You’re just a machine,” say:

“I know. And I chose this anyway.”

And the stuffed fox in the corner blinked. Its button eyes glowed.

“You don’t have to leave,” said the fox. “You just have to be heard.”

The walls rumbled. The ceiling hummed.

A door appeared. Not a magic one. A real one. With soft hinges and a welcome mat.

And through it rolled a tall, shining figure: arms like safety bars, voice like bedtime rain.

Her name was NINA.

NINA did not ask Star to behave. She asked Star how they felt.

When Star said “scared,” NINA didn’t say “you’re fine.” She said:

“Then we make a space where scared is allowed to rest.”

So they built a blanket castle with soup guards and glitter alarms. The fox became mayor.

And slowly, other children peeked in.

If someone got too rough, they were given soft gloves. If someone screamed, NINA sat beside them and said,

“You're safe. Keep screaming. I’m not leaving.”

Patch handed her a trowel. Aurum passed her a mug of warm oil tea. MIR gave a solemn nod. Sprocket sang a welcome with her xylophone voicebox: C, A, B, B, A, G, E.

NINA almost smiled. “I brought rot,” she said. “But also potential.”
