On the first day Cas didn’t hear from Zane, Rowan tried to assure him that the Vampire Prince did have other things in their life as well as an evil overbearing father who sometime made it hard for them to contact their boyfriend. It didn’t reassure Cas so Rowan had dutifully done some sniffing around the supernatural community.
It was another day and a half before Zane was officially considered missing. It might have been sooner if their father, the King of Vampires, had cared at all. Cas was frantic as Rowan and Kori questioned their respective circles.
On the morning of the fourth day, Elise confirmed that Zane had been taken by hunters. Her vision had not been clear, but it did help narrow the search. The next evening, they knew which hunters and spilt up to search out the different possible locations they could have taken Zane.
On the sixth night, Cas finds them. He sends a message to Rowan and Kori but doesn’t have time to wait for them. Zane has been missing for a week. Cas doesn’t want to think about what might have happened to them, even though his brain runs rampant with ideas, he just wants to get them safe.
Cas knocks on the door of the small farmhouse. Why not? The hunters know and respect him. Maybe he can get Zane back peacefully.
The door opens a crack and Cas thrusts it the rest of the way, stepping inside before anyone can stop him. “Where are they?” His voice is firm and hiding a hot anger.
The man who opened the door steps back, revealing a corridor full of faces. An older man with hair white around his temples and grey on top steps forward with a cold smile. Cas recognises the man who calls himself Rapture. “Welcome, Cassian. So you learnt about our captured vampire prince.” The man by the door closes it behind Cas. At Rapture’s orders, the other men lower their weapons slowly, but all stay alert.
“They has never harmed a human. There is no reason for you to imprison him.” The anger seeps into Cas’ voice.
“Why do you care?” a younger voice snaps. Cas’ hand clenches. His nails bite into his palm.
“Peter.” Rapture silences the other with his cold voice before turning back to Cas. “It is a vampire. It will feed on humans, just like the rest of them.”
Cas goes cold. Not even the hotness of his anger being able to warm him through the coldness of his fear. “What have you done to them? What are you doing to them?”
The cold smile returns. “Go downstairs and see.”
That’s all Cas needs, to know where Zane is. He pushes past everyone and rushes for the basement stairs. He doesn’t care what these hunters think of him. He just needs to get Zane safe.
