I am so happy that Prodigy exists. Even if we don’t get another season, the fact that it exists at all just makes me smile. And the fact that Janeway is getting the love and attention she deserves is also fantastic.
I don’t know if any of you were there when Voyager came out, but the hatred for Janeway specifically was next level. The fact the writers struggled with her character during the first season or so was not a secret either, and Voyager as a show wasn’t given a lot of thought by die-hard fans of Star Trek at the time. Janeway was often a running punchline for many Star Trek nerd jokes for decades.
But then this weird thing happened. Netflix became a thing and all of the Star Trek series were licensed to it for a while. And Voyager specifically was more watched than any of the other Trek shows. And as NEW people came into Trek through Netflix, the appreciation for Janeway has only grown.
Of course many of us loved Janeway from the start. But it definitely has been a bumpy road for us Janeway fans. Now she’s right up there with the other captains in terms of appreciation and respect and I couldn’t be happier.
And Prodigy continues to showcase why she’s one of my favorite captains out of all of the Trek series to date.
