"Good Shepherd" is a truly great episode.
Seven's assessment of the crew is hilarious and precious to me 😅😂
And we also have Janeway dealing with a small portion of the crew that is outside the norm for most of the members she normally interacts with. This shows what a great captain she is, who realizes she can cross the line between crew and captain. She WANTS to get to know her crew better while trying to maintain a safe distance to maintain her command standards.
We also see that not everyone was there on Voyager because they loved science, exploration, and space. And that not everyone is good at what they do; some can be lazy and insubordinate.
I like how Janeway tries to make amends for what she considers a mistake and how those three little sheep begin to see her after spending time together, also learning important and valuable things. And even though it's not a JC-focused episode, my shipper heart loved that final scene, where she's lying on the gurney like a princess, her hair impeccably styled and her beautiful blue eyes sparkling under the artificial lighting of the sickbay, while her First Officer gazes at her with complete devotion and admiration, as if he couldn't help but do so.
Anyway, I like this episode because it showcases everyday events on Voyager and problems we never even consider. You finish watching the episode and realize there are so many things in common with the normal lives of ordinary workers and their relationships with their bosses. In other words, not everyone is committed to the company, to their work, not everyone works for pleasure, not everyone is cooperative, efficient, or obedient. And I think there should be more episodes like this. Showing the crew's most human side: their grief, their friendships, their loves, their longing for Earth, the loss and mourning of their lost shipmates, how they dealt with Voyager's loss to the DQ and how they felt over the years… their opinions on the Captain's decisions… the Maquis' adaptation… so many things that haven't been explored. I like Voyager, but sometimes I get the impression that the writers didn't really care about anything other than showing action and chaos (and Voyager being destroyed🤣) in almost every episode. I miss more lightness, more fun, more personal interaction between the characters, more romance, and more screen time for the characters not on the bridge.
