Warning: SPOILERS
Its about time i got to do this comic, been a long time since my last review but here it goes.
this comic was my first dive into lgbt webcomics and i found this one randomly via a tropes page on supernatural wolves, ironically binged read this thing and fell in love with it.
the story revolves around a young man named Grant, left at orphanage for much of his life until adopted at the age of 14. before though, he discovered his bloodline was not that of an human but of a wolfman, around the time of puberty. soon he was able to shift on his own partially and lived his life as normally as possible, but alas moving out and starting his own life came with complications . taking advantage of his alone time, he chose to shift entirely as often as possible, only to need sustenance as a wolf, thus leading him to choose a life of a killer, but chose one as a lover. its here he found his first love in randy but the tragedy always rears it ugly head and the wolf part of him soon transcends into his human life becoming that of an animal needing only to feed. meeting a new man and losing his job gives him a new lease and new outlook into who he is as a person, fighting his demons and moving on from his life.
the story is very captivating in the sense that you have a real connection to grant not only as a main character but as someone you can relate to on a much deeper level. he never knew his parents or what he was for much of his life, and by all means has to hide himself from the truth or risk losing everything. the fact that the love of his life is gone and ultimately blamed himself for his death was not overshadowed but very realistic that not all stories have a happy ending. the two were very loving and by all means even accepted grant for what he was, a fluffy wolf that he moved in with shortly after dating. the moment a event transpires that changes the outcome of life's path can damage a persons mentality, even when there are others who wish to help. randy left the house alone and in grants mind if he had went with him, then maybe he would of been able to save him, or the very least die with him rather than be alone in the world. the descent into his own madness coupled with the orchestration that his werewolf side is seeping out shows a clash of inner struggles the character really exemplifies. as the story progresses which has went on a hiatus with no updates as of yet really is worth reading and showing the colors of how the character will change over the course of the story is perfect.
the use of language is very good and the characters feel more realistic than they do simple comic book characters, as i see through the dialogue how grants adopted father is embarrassing but lovable and his mother is there for him while also accepting of his sexuality. more so i see many aspects of horror themes of psychological torment like his werewolf side eating the arm of a man he just met and it really screams to him the severity of the situation and contemplates if he really is a human or just a monster waiting to come out. there is also a lot of poetic themes such as randys funeral where grant is speaking of the sky lying to them as it was sunny when the clouds should be weeping for the loss of his boyfriend.
the art style is perfect and something i would find in a graphic novel in barnes n noble, plus the use of realistic character bodies is amazing as the attention to detail shows even from the beginning. the dimensions are carefully uses and the color scheme can go from harsh tones of dark and bleak to a simple warm feeling when the story calls for it. this comic truly is a remarkable effort and amazing piece and i wanted to wait to review this because i think that i needed to get my thoughts togeher on this plus getting inspired to continue my writing really helped thanks to the creative mind of @captaingerbear
