Plenty of Fish in the Sea
For @schittscreekdrabbleblog word of the week: Courage.
.
David rises and falls rhythmically, but in a decidedly unsexy way. Because heâd insisted to Alexis that he was immune to seasickness, his pride sends him to the afterdeck of their parentsâ cute huge yacht to expel his breakfast privately. Lightheaded, he sways unsteadily; Dizziness setting in. He faints at the worst possible timeâas the vessel lurchesâthe aggressive tilt sending him over the railing. A monstrous wave wraps him in its embrace, dragging him down.
When David comes to, heâs lying atop a pile of half-dead fish, looking at the back of a sturdy man dressed in blue.
.
Why, yes, this is the Rudyard Kipling Captain Courageous AU that nobody asked for.
Thanks to @apothecarypants and @smallumbrella369 for betaâing a couple of sentences... because I am extra. đ

Thinking about the books that made me fall in love with reading as a small child and I decided to reread them recently. I've already reread Charlotte Doyle and I'm on to The Changeover by Margaret mahy which I distinctly remember as the first book that made me realize I wanted to devour novels.
Also found out that the Changeover was made into a movie??

Miss Fisher Reading List (35)
I have mixed feelings about S3E2 Murder and the Maiden where we met Miss Fisherâs old friend, Group Captain Lyle Compton. Like many of you, I disliked him for âreminiscingâ with Phryne and for âkeeping up appearancesâ with her. However, I am very fond of the actor who played Compton, Rodger Corser, which makes it difficult to hate him. Nice casting, Every Cloud Productions.
In terms of the reading list, this post was inspired by what Jack said to Miss Fisher when he found out that Compton enlisted her help for some secretive assignment, âSo Captain Courageous is entrusting Mata Hari with another secret mission.â To be honest, this was the first time I had heard of either character, so I googled them. It turned out that there were no relations between them, as far as I know.
Captain Courageous was a fictional character in Rudyard Kiplingâs novel published in 1897 (âson of a wealthy railroad tycoon, and is spoiled and largely unaware of the ways of the worldâ, per Amazon) while Mata Hari (1876-1917) was a historical figure (âDutch exotic dancer and courtesan who was convicted of being a spy for Germany during World War and executed by firing squad in Franceâ, per Wikipedia). I can see Jack referencing Mata Hari because of Phryneâs war experience, but why Captain Courageous? I am mystified. At any rate, I intend to read about them and maybe find the connection.
There are various editions of Captains Courageous on Amazon, and I randomly chose one (link here) even though one customer review pointed out that âthe publisher (Iâm assuming) managed to have a TON of typographical errors which made the story harder to readâ. I guess I will have to try my best to follow. As for Mata Hari, I am more interested in reading a biography than a novel, so I chose âMata Hari: The Controversial Life and Legacy of World War Iâs Most Famous Spyâ (Charles River Editors, 2016).
