pretty gnarly fire goin on in Corona and near Anaheim Hills rn, (as of 11pm:)5% containment with 2000-ish acres burned so far with mandatory evac in parts of Corona. Riverside, Corona, and Anaheim fire depts. have been working their asses off since 1pm today trying to knock this thing out.

8/9/25 Morning update from Ventura County Emergency Information

The Canyon Fire, which began the afternoon of August 7 near Holser Canyon north of the community of Piru, has burned an estimated 5,400 acres and is 28% contained. Today, firefighters are making good progress in suppressing the blaze, aided by favorable weather conditions and the continued use of firefighting aircraft making repeated water and retardant drops to slow the fire’s advance and support crews on the ground. The fire remains active as it spreads east toward the community of Castaic in Los Angeles County.

The Ventura County Fire Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department are operating in unified command, in close coordination with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and other cooperating local, state, and federal agencies. Together, they are actively executing a coordinated, long-term strategy to contain and suppress the Canyon Fire.

All current Evacuation Warnings have been lifted. Please use extreme caution when entering as numerous public safety vehicles are still working in the area.

Update from L.A. County Fire Department on X:

Acres Burned: 5,370

Containment: 28%

Current Situation: Crews worked throughout the night to improve defensive positions and further secure the fire's perimeter. Overnight fire activity was minimal as firefighters worked to continue strengthening existing control lines.

Firefighters will continue to enhance, monitor and patrol existing control lines, addressing heat sources as they occur while providing structure defense for residences in the affected areas.

Weather today continues to be hot and dry with temperatures in the mid-90's with relative humidity in the 19-24% range and winds gusting up to 20 mph along ridge tops. Historically dry vegetation contributes to the ongoing potential for rapid fire growth and significant fire behavior.

Two weeks ago I had my second shot of estrogen and while I was there a fire started in the hills near the medical center.
