Giant river otter
Pteronura brasiliensis
Subfamily lutrinae, family mustelidae, suborder caniformia
A more well known animal this time.
These guys are social, unlike most mustelids. They live in family groups of usually 3 to 8 (can be 2 to 20 (the 20 may be that several groups were feeding together while observed)) centred around a dominant breeding pair. The roles in these groups are not rigid and the members of groups are friendly and cooperative with each other.
They are territorial though and are aggressive to otters outside the group. They work together to maim and kill intruders. Yay teamwork, isn’t that sweet.
They are very large, reaching lengths of 1.8 metres or 5 feet 11 inches.
They are endangered due to heavy poaching, mostly in the past, for their dense velvety fur.
They are diurnal and very noisy. The noisiest of all otters in fact.
They are an apex predator in their ecosystem. They mostly eat fish, but sometimes eat crabs, small caimans and snakes. Small anacondas are included in those snakes.
They will hunt together or on their own. It depends on the prey. They hunt together for caimans and anacondas.
Personally, I think they look kinda like those Japanese demons. I mean, look at that first picture.

And now, Hemicyon sansaniensis, the “dog-bear” (not to be confused with the “bear-dog,” Amphicyon) was a small early bear. H. sansaniensis was from the Mid-Miocene of Spain, and was about the size of a large dog. Unlike modern bears, they walked on their toes, likely making them active and fast runners, pursuing their prey alone or in packs.
Almost as widespread as Amphicyons, Hemicyon species lived throughout North America and Eurasia. Hemicyoninae represent a point between dogs and bears, though they are considered a species of bear.
Happy 11th Artiversary to me! If you've followed me for a while, you'll know that February 26th of every year marks when I started drawing. This year our beloved Dragon has made his 3rd appearance in the Artiversary series! Blaze the elemental fire wolf has returned as usual, and Sapphire's eyes can be seen in the background! I know I haven't been making/posting art much, but hopefully this will hype y'all up ;v; Art & Characters made by yours truly, SapphireWolf100.
Amphicyon ingens, commonly called the “bear dog” (not to be confused with the “dog-bear,” Hemicyon) was a polar bear sized predator during the middle Miocene of Southern North America. Unlike dogs and bears, they were obligate carnivores, meaning they lacked the physiology to fully digest plant matter, and got all of their nutrients from meat. It was a pursuit predator, not fast enough for bursts of speed, but had the endurance of a wolf, loping after its prey until it would tire. Then it would use its powerful forelimbs to pounce and grab its prey before tearing in with its large, strong canines. It would have eaten the North American Savannah animals present at the time, such as camels and horses.
Amphicyon species were found worldwide, in a variety of sizes and shapes, just like their canine relatives. They were caniforms, like dogs and bears (and mustelids, procyonids, and pinnipeds) but existed outside Canoidea in their own superfamily.

Drew this for Haroah on dA!
They made a post about wanting their big floofer drawn in others’ styles, so I gave it a shot! Not only did this boy get some love, but I was also able to practice my backgrounds!
I also happened to livestream this piece earlier!
Character belongs to Haroah on dA
Tokotas is a closed species

Y’all asked for it, and now you will receive! I have given the Ramm Wolves color! (If I’m given possible... ideas and motivation/inspiration... I’d like to do more w/ them) I tried to pick colors that I think would fit them best! (Same with the way their fur is styled) They might be a little wonky bc it’s just busts of them, but I promise they would look better in full body! So... I hope y’all like ‘em now that they’re colored ;v; Ramm Wolves made by yours truly, SapphireWolf100.
Introducing... Ramm Wolves. It all started by a tag in my most recent piece inspired off of “Deutschland”. @flakelli was kind enough to reblog my piece and say some lovely things <3 She also mentioned in the tags “always wanted to see Ramm members as your wolves” and it sparked an idea. I was inspired! I started mentioning this to other Ramm fans, and they seemed to like the idea! So... this is a basic concept piece here! I tried to stylize our favorite 6 bois into wolves! (Yes I added piercings on Till and Paul haha) If this gets more attention... I might resort to making official color palettes/designs. I tried to imagine their faces/characteristics and put it in a canine the best I could! Hope y’all like the concept :3c Art and Ramm Wolves Concept made by yours truly, SapphireWolf100
