Wells Gold #58: Toronto Kickoff
World Cup starts tomorrow, bros and Toronto is already buzzing. Tonight, the city joins Mexico City and Los Angeles for the FIFA Countdown Concert, a 90-minute three-city kickoff celebration. Toronto’s lineup brings serious heat, with Bryan Adams and more.
Then the games hit. Toronto Stadium at Exhibition Place will host six World Cup matches: five group-stage games and one Round of 32 knockout match. The city’s first game is Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12, marking the first-ever men’s FIFA World Cup match played on Canadian soil.
And June is Pride month in Toronto, its massive, loud, proud, and impossible to ignore. Pride Toronto is Canada’s largest festival and the second-largest Pride in the world, with over 3 million attendees. The celebration runs through June and builds to Festival Weekend, with the Trans March, Dyke March, and the iconic Pride Parade taking over the city.
That parade is the big one, bro, floats, marchers, music, flags, community groups, chosen family, allies, and a full downtown wave of colour and power. Toronto doesn’t just show up for Pride. Toronto floods the streets. Wells can't wait to show Coach Stone, the Bros and Drones and maybe a few other guests what Pride is like in his hometown.
So yeah, June is stacked.
World Cup. Pride. Toronto. Gold.
Wells is ready, red jersey for Canada, gold fire, black trim, ball on the knee, eyes on the win.
The city is moving. The pitch is waiting. The Gold stands proud.
Let’s get golden.
