For every Patagonia, The North Face, and REI, there were dozens of smaller outdoors brands that popped up in the 60s and 70s who catered to a growing population of outdoors enthusiasts. One of my favorite lesser known brands from that era was Camp 7 of Boulder, Colorado. Camp 7 was started in 1971 by George Lamb, who also founded the legendary Alpine Designs years earlier in 1960. Camp 7 and Alpine Designs may not be household names, but to me, that’s what makes them special. As a fan of vintage, these obscure outdoors brands are some of the most interesting to discover and learn more about. Some of these pieces are extremely rare and valuable because they were made in limited quantities. Also, the people who owned this stuff beat the hell out of it, so it’s tough to find pieces that have survived. What’s your favorite obscure outdoors brand?
