So this is probably not my place and all but Iām wondering if you could show a bit more compassion to Sofia? I donāt know her. Weāve never talked and the gif thing, Iām not going to comment on it, as a white person, itās not my place to do so. But Sofia is 17 and i donāt mean that as I mean of disrespect toward her, but itās very young. And from what I saw, youāre in your mid-thirties. I just think itās usually the adultās place to make sure things are safe for everyone.
You know, there are Black fans on here that are 17 or younger right? What about showing some compassion for them? Should they not be allowed to exist in fandom without erasure, without running into Antiblack shit all over the place?
Sofia might be young, but so are they. Where are your concern for them and their youth? Their fragility? How do we make sure that this place is safe for them?
What about Black young people with anxiety on this site? How do you protect them?
Btw I never swore at her, yelled, or called her anything. I asked her a question, got an answer. When she apologized and asked what people wanted I told her, politely what it was, how I have handled similar things in the past as a way of giving her an idea what to do.
If she canāt handle being spoken to directly and without getting wrapped in cotton, she needs to talk to someone because thatās not healthy to be that fragile. And she might reconsider her involvement on open social media such as tumblr until she is able to handle being spoken to directly, in a normal tone.
Exactly how do you suggest handling this any more gently, except by not saying anything at all? Because I canāt see how this is possible without direct addressing the issue. Something like this cannot be dressed up nicely, or it diminishes the harm that Antiblackness causes.
