Tommy had disappeared early in the morning, not wanting to wake Molly up as he went for a run, basically looking for something to do. After few robberies were prevented, he skidded to a halt back outside the headquarters before he had an idea. He knew he needed a new team, that was clearly obvious and he was going to slowly drive himself insane without one. But there was something else he needed to do. He needed something that was going to help him break away from whatever he had now.
He would never even consider a change of name, because Kate gave him that and it actually meant more than just 'speed'. A change of costume perhaps. He had considered numerous colours over the year, from red to orange, white to blue...depending on the stage he was in. White was a colour he and Kate had decided on for missions that involved the arctic. When that would actually happen was beyond him, but he knew that she had designed costumes for every occasion.
He let himself inside the building, heading upstairs into the vault that contained all the costumes. Billy's capes hung on one side, Kate's purple leather was there and Eli's shield hung on a rack. Teddy didn't need clothes, and Cassie must have kept her costume because hers wasn't here. He moved over to where all of his belonged, a row of colours and designs that he had laughed at when Kate had presented them to him. He was glad she had kept them.
His fingers brushed against the fabric until he took the black one off it's hanger, inspecting it. It was the same as his usual, the green switched to black and the silver still glinted in the minimal light in the room. Black was good. Green was too much like his uncles, and that image was something he wanted to get away from.
After he tried it on, he chuckled as he looked in the mirror. Brushing his hair from his eyes, he chuckled at the way his hair contrasted with the black. It was different, but in a good way. This was something he could get used to.
