       back against the ground, grass scratching skin where an open shirt can’t protect him. the sun warms his skin, the wind grazing against— the perfect time to get his tan on.  an audible groan, exhausted by the mere sentiment of boredom. a teenage boy’s worst nightmare, it seems, even on vacation. an upside down map, first used as shade, now thrown to the side as he speaks to the sky. the clouds receive his gaze but his new acquaintance, his sharp words.  ❝   dude.  are  all  europeans this  dramatic?   first i get crucified for asking for  ice  in  my  drink,  then  i  get  death-glared  for chewing gum — what’s next?  i  get  shot  for  asking  where  the  bathroom  is?  for talking too loud?   i may as well be arrested for my crimes against italy.  ❞  a moment where he considers the possibility weighing the pros and cons, how iconic of a story it’d be if he made it home to tell the tale. 

it was wrong. so wrong. but, when had magnus ever followed the rules? when he’d agreed to spend the summer with his friend he hadn’t expected to find a deep fascination with his son. all the best things in life are unplanned, though. and while he hadn’t known elio long. he’d seen the glances, picked up on the subtle phrases, and had dissected the teenage insults that once picked apart were more compliments than anything else. so, he’d taken the leap and hoped he didn’t land flat on his ass at the feet of his long time friend. it had worked out, though it seemed. the minute lips touched his own magnus turned them, pushing elio against the small wall of the one person bathroom of the night club they’d attended that night. 

THE ONLY SENSIBLE RESPONSE TO EVEN A BRIEF OVERVIEW   of  his  current  location  is  that  the  warlock  has  found  himself  in  a  sliver  of  paradise .     Wind  whistling  through  the  towering  trees  that  litter  the  Perlman  property  plays  like  a  symphony  to  his  ears ;      rays  of  sunlight  streaming  through  the  gaps  between  their  branches     &&     and  dancing  across  Magnus’  skin  each  time  he  shifts ,     colouring  his  dark  hair  with  whispers  of  auburn .     

something pained tugs sharply on his heart. it’s unfair of him to say, for oliver to confirm that this will be the warmest place, the best home, the kindest embrace for him, and yet he will leave it anyway. he will leave him.

     ❝ i wish i could tell you stay… ❞ he says quietly.

Six weeks. Six weeks of his time spent working on his manuscript, helping a professor, learning Italian, and finding comfort and happiness in the Italian countryside, that’s all he’d come for. Love hadn’t been a factor when he’d chosen to put in his application, but it was a factor now and it weighted heavily on him.

❝ Tell me to stay, ❞ he whispers back as he frames Elio’s face with his hands and buries his face into those curls. ❝ Tell me to stay, ❞ he repeats because maybe if Elio uttered those words, they’d truly hit home for him and convince him that leaving behind his empty apartment back in the States could actually be worth it if it meant more time with Elio.
