#caliversary

I have been a #teacher 🍏 for 10 years as of today (see syllabus). My first class was the Advanced Social #Psychology Lab course in Spring Semester 2012 at @utarlington #UTArlington. I taught Introduction to Psychology in Summer 2012 (with @annaepark, I believe). I taught #SocialPsychology, my favorite class & first class of ~100 students, in Autumn 2012. I continued to teach that regular rotation of courses each year through the completion of my doctoral training in May 2015. Before teaching a course myself, I was a TA at UT San Antonio in 2010 & 2011 during my Masters degree. I also taught high school students in the summers of 2013 & 2014. #Caliversary (June 1st, 2015) The first class I taught in CA was Interpersonal #Relationships here at #UCSD 💛 🔱 💙 #Tritons (aka my 2nd home) in August 2015 (Summer Session 2). I then taught Intro Psych at @sdmesacollege & Stats/Research Methods at @uofsandiego #USD ✝️ that Fall. 📝 It's been an honor to teach at each institution I've had an opportunity to in CA, including @csusm 💙(Fall 2016 - present) #CSUSM 🐅 , @sdmiramar, @sandiegocitycollege, & @plnu #PLNU. 👩🏻‍🎓 Most of all, it's been a privilege to teach ~10,000+ students during this pedagogical decade of my life, and I look forward to the many more students to come 👩🏻‍🏫👩🏻‍💻 #TeacherLife 🍎 (at UC San Diego) https://www.instagram.com/p/CY93qXtvDP1/?utm_medium=tumblr

In happier news, today is my 5th #Caliversary - my first official day as a resident of California 💛 Thanks to Turquoise Byrd @ellyg265 for paying for the hotels & splitting on gas & Sonic breakfast & getting me here. Never could’ve imagined that day during orientation in June 2005 when you came to sit next to me, a Black male sitting at a round lunch table all to himself with headphones on & every other ‘introverted for the sake of racial safety’ signal, that you’d help me move 1000 miles away from where i was a PhD in June 2015 😌 Also i legit didn’t know they would have so many Asian restaurants for me here 😅 Going to try & do something about my boba withdrawal symptoms this week #LifeIsStrange #InterracialFriendships 🏁 (at Convoy) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA65JlpAuOJ/?igshid=tjl0xw0bmhfa

Los Angeles does not reveal itself easily to tourists and newcomers, but it is really, really good at the everyday, the longterm. The more I live here, the more I love this city. I'm about to hit the road for a few months—to Portland and Atlanta and New York and London and New York and London—but don't you worry. I'll be back.
