It didn't occur to me when I was thinking about what I might want to write, but I think I should ask to be safe. Do the submissions have to be entirely stand-alone, or can they be side-fics, companion fics, or theoretically-a-sequel to something I've already written?
The submissions for this bang can be part of a larger au, yes, but they must be completed in 1,000-1,500 words. This is to say that you can write a short companion piece to something you’ve already written, but you can’t write only part of it, call it a chapter, and have that be your submission. It also has to be understandable even without reading the rest of the story.

I have been reading fanfic voraciously through different fandoms for about twelve years now. Â In the last several I've tended to avoid multi-chapter unfinished ones because I've seen too many that just stopped. Â Lately though, I've been poking around the Pacific Rim area of AO3 (which is a blessing because of their subscription feature, let me tell you) and ran across an intriguing little gem called, "The Specimen." Â I took the leap, and started reading, even though the end number of chapters was "?" even though it was only 3 chapters in when I started.
It's been so incredibly worth it. Â It's emotional, intelligent, you can obviously tell the writes has some knowledge of biology or is at least faking it incredibly well, deals with characters in ways that show a deeper understanding of human interaction, and just really, really good. Â It's been updated on a regular basis so quickly that it's spoiling us because now it's been almost 10 days since the last chapter came out and even though Chapter 7 was extremely long and fun and deep and sexy and then incredibly sad but extremely well written and good stuff takes time I just want moremoremore. Â
I've been hitting the Refresh button multiple times a day even though I know I'll get an email about the eventual update. Â It's just been a shitty week and I don't have much else that's good to read right now, or at least I'm too lazy to go out and find it. Â There's a reason I don't invest in fics in progress. Â I think I've got a problem. Â Please, please update soon.
