A layout for my fourth year film, and some value studies
This is #1 of the 30 day challenge, a "beautiful" quick self portrait sketch. I was going to post this on the CalArts 2018 blog but I can't get onto it yet. I will get onto it someday. :-)
So, here is a self portrait or sorts. To introduce myself, my name is Jackie Cole and I am 24 years old. I have slightly imperfect teeth and that used to bother me as a kid as well as a bajillion freckles on mostly my face and arms. I wear pullover sweaters almost all the time for some reason. I just like them I guess. I got into CalArts 2014-2018 as a character animation student. Sometimes I wonder how I got in to the program, but hopefully I can live up to the expectations of the school and more importantly, my own.
I get discouraged a lot because I don't always think that I can draw well but I am working to get past that, because who's to say that one artist is better than another? One can't become the best artist in the world, so wouldn't that mean that no one can really be the better artist? And if that is true, then no one can be worse than another either. We are all trying to improve and become a better self, so why not just focus on that? I try to tell myself this that I can only become the best me, and I try to focus on improving myself and my own skills in their own time. But it's hard, comparisons are made everyday in the world that its hard to not compare. But I am trying.
So, enjoy this quickie sketch of myself! Hopefully next time I do a self portrait it will be a lot better than this one!
