I know a lot of you have already seen this image, but I wanted to re-share it. Last night I took the long way home and drove through Cairo. It was nearly nighttime, but it doesn’t take much light to notice when more of it’s ancient buildings disappear. I’d seen the Famous Building many times before it was set on fire, but only knew its interiors after the fact. I certainly never knew it in it’s hay day. Big, beautiful rooms with high ceilings and victorian wallpaper. Cairos past is part dream, part nightmare. I hope the future is bright for such a place. I’m glad I braved that structure before it was gone.
