"You're such a suck up," Tim said, head leaning out the truck's window. The dust from his tires just cleared revealing Caid standing by the broken gate. He smiled despite himself. The two of them always dissolved into the teenagers they once were at Mia's home, their were no kids, wives, or fingers around to expect them to be on their most mature behavior.
He threw the old Dodge into park, ignoring the plink, plink of pebbles hitting the metal body. With a grunt, Tim kicked open the driver's door and strode over to the fencing Caid was standing over. "You should have brought Julie over -- we both know she'd have ran circles around you," Tim grinned. Then, looked back over his shoulder at Mia's home. The place never quite shook off the dullness of her grief. Her truck wasn't in the drive, yet, either. "I think mom," Tim's mom, "said that Mimi's staying late at the school today. You think she'll be pissed if we raid her kitchen?"
