At first Tim isn't sure what it is that wakes him up. He opens his eyes and keeps his breathing steady and he waits. The room is silent except his and Jason's breathing, the click of the radiator on the cheap motel wall, and the distant sound of someone's TV in another room, so quiet there's no way that's what has woken him. He lets himself figure out if his own body woke him, but feels no particular need for the restroom and none of the unease that comes with a bad dream or his occasional panic attacks. He's not in any discomfort from sleeping on something wrong or being too hot or too cold.

Maybe they should have used gold, repaired their cracks with something beautiful, with a time-proven technique instead of a childish repair made of desperation and a desire to hide everything that's wrong. Maybe they should talk like the pair of adults they are instead the children they pretend to be. But if there's one thing Jason knows, it's that he and Dick are good at pretending. Snippet 2: It's easy. Too easy. And foolish, Jason thinks, but neither of them are renowned for thinking things through. All it takes is two little steps before he's in Dick's space and he doesn't even have to initiate it. He lifts one hand halfway to Dick's hair and Dick is there.
