Last month, I donated a small portion of my day for a photoshoot which I thought was for a great cause: for an advertising campaign for the Yellowknife Association for Community Living (YKACL) - which is a "non-profit organization that supports families, children, youth, and adults with intellectual disabilities so that they are included and are able to contribute to community life in Yellowknife". The campaign, which is a bit of a spoof on the brilliant "Got Milk?" campaign that has ran over the past couple of decades, wanted to focus on the abilities of the people they serve, and the many meaningful contributions they can make to the community around them by challenging business and organizations, "Got Tasks?". What this campaign promotes is something that is very important to me: my own little sister, Angela, is part of the Nova Scotia equivalent of the YKACL. By being part of the CACL community in Nova Scotia - and working a number of jobs and demonstrating a number of tasks that she is more than capable of performing - she has benefited tremendously from the work experience, as have those businesses and organizations which have partnered with the CACL. Here's three of my fun and talented "models" on some of the posters that are to go out, demonstrating some of the tasks that they enjoy performing.
