Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Taken on 24/02/2020. Caccuri is classified as one of Calabria's – and Italy's – most beautiful villages. The name of this secluded medieval village derives from the Greek 'Cacumen' meaning 'summit' — quite a fitting name given that Caccuri is perched on the spur of a protruding spot between the Lepre and Lese, two affluents of the River Neto. Narrow cobbled streets, interwoven with steep climbs and descents, await you in Caccuri. But the herculean effort that it takes to make it to the historical centre at the top is really worthwhile—not only for its ancient monuments, but also for the vast views that can be enjoyed of the beautiful, bumpy landscape that is nothing short of amazing. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: Catch a bus with 'Autolinee Romano' from Crotone bus station heading for San Giovanni in Fiore or Cosenza. The nearest stop to Caccuri is at the 'bivio' (junction) at the bottom of the hill near the 'Autoto Noce' service station. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the the top of the village on foot, though it's a wonderful way to take in the views at your own pace. ______________________________________ #Caccuri #IgersCrotone #Ig_Crotone #Calabria #SouthItaly #AMePiaceIlSud #SudItalia #TurisCalabria #Italia #Italy #Fotografia #YourShotPhotographer #ILikeItaly #Ill_Grammers #Nature #Photography #Photographer #Borghi_World #Borghi_Italiani #BorghiPiùBellidItalia #BorghidItalia #TravelPhotography #CalabriaDaScoprire #TheHub_Calabria #VivoCalabria #VisitCalabria #Ig_Italy #YallersItalia #YallersCalabria #VolgoItalia (at Caccuri) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGABDXplmw_/?igshid=sui34ato6af7
Canon EOS 250D | 62mm | 1/400s | f/9 | ISO 100 Taken on 24/02/2020. Before heading to Caccuri I'd visited two medieval towns – Corigliano Calabro and Rossano – as well as the Archaeological Park of Capo Colonna the previous day. As I mentioned yesterday, the visit to Corigiano Calabro didn't go according to plan, but I nonetheless managed to capture the stacked houses that make up the historic centre. The day I explored two ancient villages that are considered the most beautiful in the province of Crotone – Caccuri and Santa Severina – didn't go according to plan either 😕. The original plan was to catch the 6.15am bus from Crotone to Caccuri. But the bus had actually left at 6am just when I arrived at the bus station. Apparently this was down to the fact that there had been a major disruption on that particular bus route since January. This meant the bus company Romano decided to amend the timetable by 15 minutes ahead of schedule without notice, which is fine if you're a regular commuter or from the area, but not for tourists. However, every cloud has a silver lining. When I explained my situation to one of the bus drivers on duty, he asked his colleague, who was about to leave for Cosenza on the Crotone–Cosenza bus route, to make a stop at the junction for Caccuri (basically at the bottom of the hill). Without this incredible act of kindness, which I've experienced a few times in Southern Italy, I honestly don't know how I would have managed to get to this marvellous medieval village that has a maze of streets and alleys leading to its imposing castle. Calabria may be miles behind Northern Italy in some respects, but the people here wear their hearts on their sleeves and are incredibly kind and friendly. Canon EOS 250D | 62mm | 1/400s | f/9 | ISO 100 Taken on 24/02/2020. I'm now into the third day of my trip around the Ionian side of Calabria. There have been a few hiccups along the way and this morning is no exception. Following yesterday's itinerary, which included visits to medieval towns – Corigliano Calabro and Rossano – as well as the Archaeological Park of Capo Colonna, today's one involves discovering two ancient villages that are considered the most beautiful in the province of Crotone: Caccuri and Santa Severina. The original plan was to catch the 6.15am bus from Crotone to Caccuri. But that's easier said than done in Calabria because the bus had actually left at 6am just when I arrived at the bus station. Apparently this was down to the fact that there's been a broken stretch of road on that bus route since January. So the bus company Romano decided to amend the timetable by 15 minutes ahead of schedule without notice. That's fine if you're a regular commuter or from the area, but not for tourists.
