Actually, we celebrate Gyftmas! It's a holiday that's identical to Human's modern-day Christmas, but with a Monster's magical twist! And no worship of a dead dude (no judgement, I am also a dead dude). :p My dad did take inspiration from Christmas when creating the name and taking his guise as "Santa," but the rest was kinda just a coincidence.
Christianity was a thing in our timeline, but Monsters had their own religion, and Gyftmas wasn't even a part of it. It was just a way to keep up morale among Monsterkind and encourage everyone to not embrace the stereotype Humans had placed upon us during the War.
Papyrus wasn't one to really even believe in Monsterkind's religion, he wanted to be a Royal Guard, and believing in an invisible force wouldn't've helped him achieve that, only he could! So, he believed in himself! It didn't work but he still believed! He is very committed!
