For as long as anyone could remember, Bucky had been Steve’s best friend. As they grew, it was quite obvious what was blossoming between them. Upon Steve presenting as an Omega, the Alpha in Bucky was already demanding his claim be put on Steve's pretty neck. But Bucky was the low-born son of a palace cook and Steve was the heir to the throne. Theirs was a love not meant to be. The King had not pushed for more heirs after having a son, and after his son failed to turn out the Alpha he had wanted, he refused to see an Omega take the throne. His Omega child would have to bear Alpha sons, and soon. So the King arranged for a tournament to be held; the prize, the Omega-Prince's hand in marriage. Per the laws of the kingdom, entry to the tournament was open to any honorable knight, bearing he pay a fee. That fee should have ensured that no Alphas of low status entered and certainly, the King would not willingly allow his son's best friend, knight and member of the Queen's Guard though he be, compete in the tournament. It was fortunate, then, that fate was on the side of the underdog that time.

oki so i have two main ones that i’m working on right now. i’m not gonna go into *heavy* details of their stories bc it’s kinda sad, but !!! im excited to talk about them!!
the main character of this story is Juniper (he/him pronouns). He’s 16 years old and has a sorta cottage/naturecore vibe to him. he lives in sweaters and jackets, mainly to cover up his skin because he’s vv self-conscious. Juniper can and will fight for his favorite person in the world, and the only person he really cares about (his younger brother). he’s a big theater nerd and loves acting because it gives him an escape from his frankly pretty bad life. he’s very blunt but he’s better at dealing with emotions than he gives himself credit for.
Juni is also bisexual!!
Juniper’s younger brother is Cabbage (he/him, too). Cabbage has socially transitioned everywhere except in his household because he’s a trans boy. He’s 12 years old and more reckless and wild than Juniper. He often acts with his heart and it gets him hurt. Thing is, though, Cabbage is kinda shy. Juniper is more of the people-person because Cabbage has a hard time understanding body language. He has trouble reading (due to ADD, I think) but he really likes doing math!! Fun fact: Cabb was born early so he’s sorta small!
((ps!! juni and cabb’s “enemy” in this story is named Static (they/them). Static is a being in a suit with a shattered TV as a head. I can’t say much about who or what Static is, but they are a main plot point I’m really excited for their story too sldkfj))

James Buchanan Barnes wishes he had never dreamt of fire. The smell of ash and bone dust follows him everywhere, stuck inside his nose. He feels like an arsonist, watching his life fall victim to the terrible beauty.
Bucky Barnes has been dubbed the greatest writer of his generation. After his PTSD and depression almost get the better of him, he moves back home to Brooklyn to try and find his love of both writing and living. Steve Rogers is an up and coming artist with a passion for literature. Maybe all of Bucky's dreams haven't come true yet after all.
“Bucky very slowly pivoted on his boot heels until he was facing Howler and then brought his hand up at a glacial pace to reach out. He expected Howler to pull back at any moment, but he didn’t and Bucky stroked his fingertips lightly along the horse's head and nose. Then, Howler backed away and turned around in his stall, dismissing Bucky, and the moment was over.
Bucky turned and blinked a few times at Steve, clearly surprised and pleased. Steve just smiled and tried really hard not to show how affected he was that Howler had chosen Bucky of all people to make a connection to.”
