NGC 6541, C78 // Fernando Oliveira de Menezes
Located about 24,800 light years from the Sun in the constellation of Corona Australis, the Southern Crown, is the globular cluster NGC 6541. It was discovered in 1826 by Italian astronomer Niccolò Cacciatore (1770-1841). Although it is far from the Sun, it is not that far from the center of the Milky Way, only 7,200 light years distant. It is also extremely metal-poor and around 12.9 billion years old.
It is best seen during the summer in the northern hemisphere.
