coyote is essentially the family fuck up ! although his parents would never say so ( at least not directly to him ___ that was brianna’s job ) . adopted and taken in by two loving parents ( frankie & sol ) , coyote was blessed with a childhood full of holistic medicine and open honesty . 

unfortunately , sometimes it doesn’t matter what your parents believe , when you don’t like yourself , other’s opinions won’t just wash it away . instead , after becoming a professor at the local college , coyote fell into a drug habit that climaxed when he drove his car onto the lawn and professed his love to the then married and pregnant mallory !! shortly after , coyote was sent to rehab where he spent the next 90 days recovering and thinking about all the mistakes he’d made in the last year . 

although his recovery hadn’t been perfect , coyote is now 4 years sober and pretty proud of himself !! he’s gotten back into teaching , even if it’s as a substitute . he also spent a fair amount of time building himself a little house . he’s essentially an all around weirdo , but has been learning to embrace that about himself ! 

although he’s in the acceptance stage ( self proclaimed ) , when he first arrived at twin rivers , he was fairly certain he was having a relapse from an acid tab he’d taken years ago . but after a few days passed and he was sure he wasn’t living in an illusion , he started to get back into the flow of things and has begun to teach again !
