The scent of her invades all of his senses and he had to force himself to focus on her not killing him, and himself not to kill her, by mistake. The scent of her blood, her desire, her sweat, her anger, her fear all went straight to his groin.

He groaned low in his throat and tried to cover it with a strained chuckle. “I said no fighting, Miss Anders. Not here. I came to invite you to a party I'm throwing tomorrow night. I think it would be a good place to us to...talk.” It's clear what he actually means because of the way he whispers his invite against her ear. Kory shivers again, tension of a different kind winding low in her belly. For a vampire, she is surprised at the heat of him along her back, the strength in his arms as he keeps her pinned against him. His fingertips slide along the hand gripping the stake tightly sending sparks through her as he slowly grazes her skin. His hands were surprisingly soft for him to be such a monster. He wraps his fingers around hers and yanks the stake free the moment he feels her relax.
