Winter Winds|Remus & James
The days following a full moon had never been kind to Remus; though they had gotten better with the years, they continued to serve as a reminder of nights that he wished weren’t any different from the next. His friends had made them better when bandages adorned him and an urge to cry kept him him company. He was lucky, he knew that more so than anyone else and yet, as he pulled his coat closer to him, Remus wished things were different.
A companion of a thought, it had seen him through the majority of his days at Hogwarts and though it left him from time to time, it always came back. What would things have been like if he were normal? How different would everything be if he didn’t have to work through aching bones before and after a full moon? Madame Pomfrey had been the first to remind him that hypothetical’s would never help him. Still, it was tempting.
A part of him was aware of the fact that he was shivering slightly, a warming charm would have been a quick fix and yet, he made no move to grab his wand. Instead, he pulled his coat a tiny bit closer and continued to walk. The streets were familiar and perhaps, that was why he was perfectly fine with just walking without paying too much attention, after all, when he had no clear destination anywhere was better than home.
It was early into the next morning when the crunch of snow accompanied him to a building that was entirely too familiar and normally warm. It was almost comical that shock greeted him when he realized where he was though he knew well that if he had been paying attention to where he was going, it would have been obvious where he was heading to.
He was too reliant on them, or at least that’s what he told himself. Yet, he took the step towards the building and hesitated at the door. Uneasiness blanketed him as he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, finding the option of a call much more appealing and less likely to possibly wake Sirius up.
A shiver ran through Remus as he held the phone up to his ear and though it rang twice, he wished it would go to voicemail.
“James...”
His voice sounded off and for a moment, it caught him off guard.
“I’m outside...can we talk?”
