“I’m usually a lot more of a ray of sunshine on those days.” Tobey admitted, bitterness coating his tongue. The Sinner’s rest was the go-to on any given day, Tobey dragging friends to the bar anytime he could. And most days, it was a riot. Tobey would drink, laugh, rinse and repeat. That wasn’t the case tonight. “Glad to know I’m making a memorable impression, then.” He murmured, nursing his rum and coke in his hands, rotating the sweating glass in his palms.
Sighing, Tobey dropped his head, dark locks licking the sticky counter. “I’m sorry, man.” He apologized, sheepishly. “Work fucking sucked. Had to give CPR to three people today. Two were choking on a hot dog, that I then had to taste by proxy. The third guy just wanted an excuse to tongue me.” He shuddered. “The guy wasn’t even hot!” Tobey exclaimed, needing to take a swig. “And did I mention my car broke down as I got here. Yeah, it’s sitting riiiiight out there.” He bucked his thumb to the front door behind him. “Figured id just waste sometime procrastinating before I figure out why to do. Either way, not your fault.”
One thing about bartenders: they learned to listen. Ray wasn't the exception. If anything, perhaps he listened too much. He listened enough to know that this patron was a lifeguard; he picked up that much through the conversations Tobey held with his friends on his regular visits. So, at least, the complaints voice made a lot of sense for him.
"We really need to get you a job where you get to tongue people you actually find attractive... And with less hotdogs involved," he mused gently, going the extra mile and pouring a glass of rum and coke for himself. Apparently, the demon had decided that he would give Tobey most of his attention that night.
"Say, Tobey... Your name was Tobey, right mate? What do you say you forget about the crappy day you've had, you enjoy your drink and the music, and I call someone to get your car checked for you?" he offered warmly, leaning over the bar just to get a little bit closer to the other. "And if you say yes, I miiiiight even give you a shoulder rub, you know, for the tension."
