Dynamic summer antique kimono showing tobiuo (flying fish) gliding over swirling waves. Entire kimono has woven-in silvery stripes which must beautifully shimmer irl.

Pattern is inspired by this byobu (folding screen) painted by nihonga artist Kawabata Ryûshi titled [Kuroshio]:

「幕末のアイヌ絵師の第一人者平沢屏山によるもので、屏山自身、日高・十勝地方のアイヌの人々と一緒に生活を共にし、その暮らしを詳細に観察して絵画におさめたものです。

アイヌ風俗絵屏風は、アイヌ民族の大らかな一年をとおした季節ごとの生業の様子をあえて12ヶ月に区分し、その月々の主なる暮らしぶりを巧みな描写で紹介しています。巧みな描写は、たぐい稀なるアイヌ絵の逸品に仕上げているばかりでなく、アイヌ民族の物質文化・精神文化を知ることのできる貴重な資料になっています」

“This screen was painted by Byozan Hirasawa, a well known painter of Ainu scenes, in the closing days of the Tokugawa government. Hirasawa had lived among the Ainu people of Hidaka and Tokachi areas. He observed their daily lives in detail and illustrated it realistically on this screen.“
