I would like to know your thoughts on the gym part
okay so you asked, and Iām here to deliver. buckle in, we gon be here a minute.
So the whole thing with Eddie and Buck in the gym. weāre seeing Buck behave in a way that weāve never seen him behave before, and I just need to be candid about that for a minute. Weāve never seen Buck behave aggressively or with anger like weāre seeing in this season.
now bare with me a second Iām about to draw a parallel here.
before season 3, we had never seen Eddie behave aggressively or with anger before.
you see where Iām going with this?
so Eddieās trauma that led him to his aggressive behavior, was the death of his wife, the near-death of his best friend, who he co-parents his son with, the near loss of his son, that he co-parents with his best, and then the loss of his best friend, via a lawsuit.Ā
now I know we donāt really talk about this arc here, and I donāt really want to tbh, but we have to, to get through this, so this is where weāre going.
Eddieās trauma led him to his need to release all of this pent up anger, which in my opinion was anger he had at himself. I feel like he blamed himself for a lot of those things that we just talked about, and thatās really where his anger comes from, heās mad at himself, whether thatās mad at himself for letting those things happen or mad at himself for not being able toĀ ācontrolā his emotions or his feelings over those things that happened. But I feel like Eddie is mad at himself.
So we know where Eddieās anger and aggression came from, now we have to look at Buckās situation here. Buck is showing a lot of anger in these situations, and imo valid.Ā esp if heās dealing with the root of his issues, with not being good enough for anyone, and possibly the root of his abandonment issues (we donāt know yet).
I think that Buck is having a lot of emotions and is completely unsure of what to do with those feelings, so theyāre bursting out of him in anger, and in angry moments like weāre seeing in the Promos.
Now I think that we should backtrack a little bit bc these are not violent men. theyāre not men who are aggressive, at all. so to see these characterizations of them feels out of character, to say the least.Ā
Youāll just never convince me that Eddie Diaz, the man who was so soft with his son, having a conversation about how dogs see humans if they see humans as bigger, less hairy dogs??? and being so tender with his son, youāll just never convince me that, that man has any aggression in him. you just never will. I donāt give a fuck what the canon says, Iāll never be convinced.
in the same way that Iāll never be convinced, that Evan Buckley, the man who wears his heart on his sleeve. the man who helped organize an entire Christmas dinner, including a foster home at the firehouse, so that his best friend, could spend Christmas with his son. the same man who found a way for his best friendās son to skateboard after feeling very discouraged. youāll just never convince me that this man, Evan Buckley, has any aggressive tendency, you just never will.Ā
now with that being said, I think that we need to look at what exactly Buckās trauma could be here, to have him acting so wildly out of character. These are just things that we donāt know yet, and I think that whatever trauma Buck is dealing with in regards to the situation, is really what we need to be addressing when looking at these scenes where Buck is having these outbursts.
now with that being said, I think that Eddie being here with Buck, says something about them. and says something about their relationship. Eddie has dealt with aggression in the past and he knows what it feels like to be so angry that you just need to hit something. and weāre seeing Buck in a similar state of mind, heās so up in his feelings and so upset that he actually needs to hit something to feel better. and I think that Eddie being here for Buck while heās going through it like this, might be an indicator of what Eddie wishes he had when he was going through it. I think that weāre seeing Eddie supporting Buck through his feelings, in a way that Eddie wishes, but doesnāt realize that he needed. I think weāre seeing Eddie just do something that comes naturally to him, and thatās to care for Buck. To me, thatās what this scene looks like.Ā it looks like weāre seeing Eddie care for Buck and support him, in the best way he knows how and right now thatās just being there for him during whatever emotional state that Buck is in right now.
