2017 Music Revolution - Preview and Prediction
With less than 25 days until the first show of the UK drum corps season, we take a look at the competing corps.
This show is a joint DCUK and BYBA contest, which means most of the corps will be performing twice on the day. Whilst this should not pose any issues, it will definitely be a test of stamina for some of the players!
The BYBA contest will run first, starting at 10AM. Unfortunately, there have been no entries in the Junior class, so the first performance will be in the Contest class. Spalding MA will be the first to perform, followed by Concord AllStars.
Phantom Knights will open the Championship class with their 2017 show, “The Chess Game”. They performed this at the BYBA Midlands showcase back in April. Dynamic Vibe Performance Ensemble also performed at the Midlands showcase, and will be performing a show entitled “Whole”.
Another Midlands band, The Comets Performance Ensemble will follow after a short break. Their show, “Here to Eternity”, is all about life after death, which is reflected in their musical choices. Stafford Brigades have already won Best Brass, Best Percussion & Best Display on their way to a 2nd place position at West Midlands District Band Competition, so will look to keep their winning ways going at this contest! Halifax BB/GB wil be the last to perform in this class.
The Premier class will begin just after noon with Revolution. The hosts are te only corps in this class so may be lacking a competitive edge for their first performance.
The first DCUK performance will begin at 2PM with the Junior class. Concord AllStars are the only corps performing in this class.
The Open class will begin around quarter past 2, with Comets performing again. They will be followed by another BYBA corps, Dynamic Vibe. As both of these corps will have had a long break between their BYBA show and their DCUK show, we should not see too much fatigue or tiredness affecting the players. They will be followed by Beeches, who will look to give us a tingling feeling with their show, “The 5 Senses”. There will then be a short break.
East Coast Elite are unleashing their inner mobsters with their show, “He Had It Comin’“. They will be followed by another horror-themed show, as Revolution are performing their show, “Jekyll and Hyde”, straight after. Kidsgrove Scouts will take inspiration from classical literature as they perform a show entitled “Montagues and Capulets”, telling the story of Romeo and Juliet through music and dance. The Company Performance Ensemble will close the contest with their show, “Tomorrow (It’s Just Around the Corner)”, another inspirational show about a place where life is almost perfect, everything has meaning and where your dreams become a reality.
