These adorable button cookies are made with a classic sugar cookie dough recipe that's transformed into colorful, button-shaped treats. Perfect for themed parties or simply to delight both kids and adults alike!
Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour. 1/2 teaspoon baking powder. 1/4 teaspoon salt. 1 cup unsalted butter, softened. 1 cup granulated sugar. 1 large egg. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Food coloring assorted colors. Colorful sanding sugar optional.
Instructions: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Divide the dough into equal portions, one for each color you'd like to make. Add a few drops of food coloring to each portion, kneading until the color is evenly distributed and the desired shade is reached. Wrap each colored dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 1 hour, or until firm. Preheat the oven to 350F 175C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Take a small amount of each colored dough and roll it into a ball. Press the balls onto the prepared baking sheet to create button-like shapes. If using sanding sugar, sprinkle a pinch onto each button cookie and gently press it in. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
