hey, i have a quick question--do you know anything about fungus (or potentially your followers)? i had a piece of mopani wood in my crestie's tank and today as i pulled it out (it's probably been there for a week or two) one side was just covered in fungus. i took it out immediately and it doesn't seem to have spread to any other parts of the tank, but i couldn't find a lot written about it through google and i've heard some fungus isn't bad?
Most fungus that colonizes mopani wood isn’t bad, actually! Fungus is an important part of a bioactive system. Certain molds (mold is a type of fungus) can be a problem, though, so unless you’re running a bioactive it’s good to clean it up. Just scrape it off and boil your wood! Or bake it. Dunk it in water and put it in the oven at like, 200 for half an hour to an hour. (I recently learned that baking wet wood works better than baking dry wood.)Â
However, if it’s black mold, that’s a problem. Not all black mold is THE black mold, but better safe than sorry, y’know? I mean, some of it’s just gross mildew, but black mold is a problem for humans and lizzers alike. If you have continued problems, you can try switching to cork bark- that is usually less fungus/mold friendly.Â
hi!! i'm probably freaking out about this but i want some reassurance. i was handling my crestie today when i noticed she had the tiniest little black fleck on her toe today. i managed to get it off with a q-tip and it showed no signs of being a bug nor did it appear to be a cut. should i be worried?? i think it might be some food potentially just stuck to her foot since the rest of her body is fine and she's been in good health and has zero problems eating and moving at night.
