Thursday 21st May – Young love // Bus plays II
This play takes place on a bus. You board the bus at a designated stop, along with some other audience members and performers. You do not know who is which.
A young couple – teenagers – are canoodling at the back of the bus. She is sitting with her legs over him, and he has his arms around her. It’s a tangled mess of teenaged bodies, crammed into the constricting wedge of a bus seat.
TREY: Babe, can I ask you a question?
TREY: What’s gonna happen to us?
SAMIRA: Babe. Not now. I can’t.
TREY: We have to talk about this some day.
SAMIRA: But not now Babe. I’m happy.
TREY: I’m happy too babe. But I want to stay happy.
SAMIRA: Don’t ruin this.
TREY: I’m not ruining it.
SAMIRA: (stiffening up and unhooking her legs from him) You ARE, babe. You are.
TREY: I’m not trying to.
SAMIRA: Why would you mention us ending?
TREY: Babe, I’m not. I don’t want us to end. I want forever for us. We just need to work out how.
SAMIRA: Everything ends, babe.
(Samira looks to the window, a tear rolling down her cheek. Trey reaches across and holds her hand, tightly).
