       ---    TRAINING WAS ,  IN NO WAY ,   UNFAMILIAR TO REYES .   this was fairly obvious ,   seeing as he ran drills with his blackwatch team quite often .   ashe  --  one of the newer recruits  --  was certainly the ambitious type .   he liked it ,  truth be told .   but ,   much like everything else ,  it seemed to also be a bad thing .   that ambition became a fault during difficult drills .

       ---     said drill was an aiming drill .   for the most part ,  ashe had shown killer aim .   but it seemed this one was proving to be a difficult obstacle .   it was fine ,  really ;  struggle was normal .   even he struggled sometimes ,  and he often came up with the drills .

Melancholy

You create from melancholy. There is an aimless sadness that pervades your life. It's not as though there's anything in particular you're grieving, but you still find yourself possessed of a peculiar somberness. This melancholy seeps into your art, where it becomes a directionless lament. You long to make your senseless sadness into something beautiful and bittersweet, so you depict it countless times throughout your work. It sets the tone of everything you create, filtering all you craft through a melancholic lens. There is a nostalgia for what never was, a grief for something you never had, a longing that doesn't know what it craves. These are the feelings that serve as your inspiration: vague, listless lamentations.

jesse has three younger sisters  ( technically half sisters, as their father is jesse’s step father, but he doesn’t refer to them that way and they all look like their mother anyway so no one really asks )  that live at home with his mother and her husband on the ranch. because he is much older than all of them, he didn’t really grow up with them, but they are close and he tries to visit often.

the oldest is pepper, who is seventeen. she’s definitely the quietest of the four and always has been, as well as the shy one. she’s a bookworm and likes to read a lot - she is one of the few people jesse has confided to about his joel morricone identity and she really enjoys reading his writing, basically begs him to let her proofread for him. she really loves old fashioned literature and wants to leave home and make something of herself as an author, as much as she loves the family ranch. 

then there’s celia, who is fourteen. she’s the most “normal” of her siblings, with a healthy balance of good grades, sports and other extracurriculars, and her own hobbies, particularly music. she isn’t as much of a recluse as jesse or pepper nor is she as hyper as her little sister. she bonded to jesse before either of her sisters did and really admires him in a lot of ways, and is usually always the first to greet him when he comes home. he’s the one who taught her how to play guitar, and she likes to make music with him. she’s a happy kid and really enjoys looking after the ranch, especially the horses.

the youngest is ada mae, who is the family wild child at twelve.. she’s definitely not as bad as jesse was as a kid and her mischievous nature is pretty harmless. sometimes she pranks or teases her sisters and they fight, but that’s just how having sisters is; they usually recruit jesse to get back at her anyway. she’s your typical tomboy kid, really enjoys playing outside and getting dirty, and really likes having jesse around because she finally has someone to roughhouse with - her sisters won’t. she’s a good kid though, and always means well.

jesse didn’t meet any of them in person until he was thirty - the girls were ten, seven, and five. they always knew they had a brother, their mom never hid jesse’s existence from them and they saw plenty of pictures of him. his absence was excused by him being with the military, which isn’t a total lie - pepper and celia know jesse’s real line of work now, unbenknownst to him, and want better for him. ada mae has no idea. they don’t really know much about jesse’s father  ( they know that he existed and died, but none of the abusive stuff )  but jesse has been honest with all of them about having run away from home and running the gang. he’s made it very clear that he regrets it and doesn’t want them to follow in his footsteps.

jesse struggled to bond with them a little when they he first met them, because it sort of felt like his mom had just started over with a new family without him, but he overcame that enough for the kids’ sake. the three of them have since gotten really attached to him, and he loves them to pieces.

     Oh yeah. She was most likely gonna kill him for this but he had always been the friend type to ignore personal space. With his stupid slanted grin did the cowboy scoop her up in a tight hug, whirling her lightly in his arms as he did.
