One of my favorite pieces from my time at the University of Rochester. On the 10th anniversary of the Burgett Intercultural Center, the Center's leadership wanted to honor their namesake who had since passed away. I proposed a mural of Paul Burgett doing what he was best known for, being an inspiring and beloved teacher. I used several reference photos of Paul to build the pose needed and many of the student faces included were taken from photos of his classes. I knew Paul personally as well and I hope this tribute would make him smile. Check out his most famous speech on Youtube, the Fiery Furnace, and you'll understand why he was beloved.
Designed complete installation concept through implementation. Digital, vinyl wall applique.
