I use NovaSkin online to make my mc skins! It gives you the layers options and gives you the 3d model to work with so you know what the model will look like when its done. You can also directly upload it to your account when your done!

I recommend using one of those online skin makers, you can paint your skin directly onto the model and see what the shading looks like - there’s even a toggle for the extra layer!
I’ll have a look at those, but I’ve typically found them very difficult to use. i’m also really particular about my use of colour and a lot of them don’t even have hex code inputs :s
but the main problem i’m having is actually more of a “how do i shade this flat 3d object in such a way that it looks three dimensional?” I’m trying a top-down light source, but everything is just a rectangle with no definition, and it’s hard to place the shading appropriately because of the way the skin attaches to the model (i.e. the “inside” of the left arm is the “outside” of the right arm, so you can’t just shade the “inside” and get away with it).
it’s a lot easier with the blocks and objects (although i do have to touch up a few here and there) but for some reason it’s very hard for me to wrap my head around skinning the entities.
@shaebertooth, @bunniteeth, and I got the Sora, Riku, and Kairi jackets from Hot Topic and we’re now the Destiny Trio no one wanted or asked for.Â
