I have a character in my scifi who's missing his legs from knee down. It's not a recent disability so he's adjusted to it. I'm trying to come up with some cool leg attachments he'd probably have. He's an engineer, so he makes his own in his down time and could have some wild stuff
Like, he'd have just easy to walk with legs for causal use I figure. This kinda thing (but both legs)
I reckon he's got stealth fake legs that look and move like real legs, even to the point of having a rubbery skin touch if you bump them. For if he ever wants to lie to people. He lies to people a lot, it's a real character trait so that works for me
He'd have one of the swoopy ones that look so cool
I mean, how cool can you get? They're awesome
They work in zero gravity sometimes. So there'll be a foot design that's easier in zero g. Moving around is mostly done by hooking your toes under a hoop, so something with a hook inbuilt makes sense for him. This kinda of vibe
But more hook-focused in design
I reckon he'll have something that's magnetic. So, he can climb walls by clicking the magnetic of it on and off as he steps. He might use that in zero g sometimes too I suppose
He'll also have a set that attaches to his space suit. They'd have some air thrusters on, so he can kinda fly alongside the ship and adjust position iron man style without having to hold onto stuff to manage himself
And he def has something with like a seat built in. I mean, that's the dream, innit? I'm basing that off this design
But with the idea that the lever thing at the back of the thigh would be a seat that kinda locks into place if you bend your knees a certain way. And on both legs, so he can just sit whenever he wants
He's a pretty fun engineer. I reckon he's got like a work day one that looks like nothing special except it can also make a coffee
Like that, except the coffee machine is attached where the calf would be
Like, that's the work leg on the right, the left work leg has a bunch of emergency engineering equipments. Like, four Allen keys, WD-40, and a wrench hidden inside. And a good erotica novel.
Maybe he'd have one that's designed to flip around and become a table when he sits down? Or a really pretty one? I think he'd have to buy a pretty one, he's not an artistic kinda dude
I can't think of anything else rn. I am taking suggestions lol
TO’s pod was in hallway C, twelve pods down the large hall and six pods up on the right; just high enough to require the use of a ladder as it was far too cramped in the dormitories to allow flight. DH had been located down in row G, but TO had fixed that.
Only three days after they had met and started spending all the time they could together, TO had decided to have a chat with the synth that slept under them. It was relatively quiet at the time - some synths were sleeping, others studying. The synth under him, 46H56, was running a puzzle program on their computer when TO leaned down to observe them, clutching the edge of their pod so that they didn’t fall.
It took 46H56 a moment to notice that they were there, and they jumped when they saw TO’s face staring at them. They hit their head off the low ceiling of their pod and dropped their hands away from the computer, failing their puzzle. They muttered, rubbing the top of their head as they turned to face TO
“I told you not to speak to me.” they said. 45H56 had been failure number 7. Questions about how their training had gone that day without a proper reason for asking (curiosity apparently had not been a proper reason) had earned them 45H56’s disdain.
“You should move.”
“Why?”

The dormitories for synths in training were relatively simple; a big, warehouse-like room with grey walls and dim lights. Walls like shelves
I'm trying to create like a dozen distinct characters, so enjoy my poll where I try to summarise everyone in my spaceship story. This is to help me check that they are actually all different and that I have a character for each rather than just sort of having dialogue
vote with your heart
only interested in talking about their passion (gravity) otherwise austere
thoroughly proper, often curt to the point of rude, panics easily
manager who wants to be your friend so fucking bad it's keeping her up at night
completely defined by the job. all convos must be about work.
divorced. accidentally developed hyperspecific skillset. secretly funny
dykes on bikes energy, super laid back, smuggles stuff for extra cash
very friendly. totally uncomfortable with confrontation
working to send money home. homesick and talks about family a lot. gift giver
totally disinterested in anyone else. wear big fuck off headphones all the time
absolute sweetheart. sings under her breath. knows something about everything
chad. has figured out a way to exercise in zero gravity
deeply politically engaged, but has fringe theories about everything. confident

I have been back and forth on this!!
At first I was like, it's about distance. Then I remembered that the put won't stop in space. So then it became about accuracy, because there is an element of accuracy in shot put. It's within a certain range. But then we do really award shotput based on distance, so the equivalent in space is speed. So maybe it's a speed thing?
What I've ended up with is a bit of a mix.
The accuracy range is tighter than current Olympics. More like a big target, with maybe a meter wide hole in the middle. The shot put is thrown and has to pass through the centre hole. Then every 50 meters or so there's another target with the same hole. If you're perfectly on aim, theoretically, the put could travel forever. But the score is multiplied by speed, so you're rewarded with extra points for every target you pass at speed.
People can chuck with decent accuracy at a slow speed, but it takes real skill to keep the speed and accuracy up. Often it takes a kilometer or so before Olympian throws bounce off the target, and they're moving very fast
That's what I think atm. But tbh there's something very funny about shot put being entirely speed based, and have people in small room throwing rocks as fast as they fucking can, no consideration of accuracy at all.
It also makes me think that the ship Ferberen is on doesn't have weapons, they have an Olympic shotputter who has her Olympic shotput space suit with her and will happily climb out onto the hull and chuck shit at your ship if you bother her. And it'll all hit.

Situation:
You and a colleague made out, then had a big fight. You cannot tell if he likes you or not or if he's attracted to you or not or whatever combination of the two he may be.
He has also just risked his life fairly unnecessarily and seems to think it's fine and normal (maybe it is? You're new) and now he's only wearing a wet singlet and laughing (god why is he wet, he has muscles 🥲) and you're alone and you're both breathless from the, again, unnecessary life risking.
do you
yell at him
kiss him
push him out the ship, let's see him really risk his life
leave and dob him in to the captain
leave to masturbate to the memory
be paralyzed by indecision and have no idea what you might be communicating
Here's another poll about my very fun scifi characters
character features I'm enjoying
name starts with a T, so everyone calls them Cuppa
shore leave habit is to just go to the cemetery and attend a stranger's funeral
wanted for murder, has no plans in place to handle this situation
she represented their moon in the Saturn Olympics once, for zero g shotput
two of them did a no fuel orbit run of the main seven moons together
believes the government is tracking people via drinking water. maybe he's right?
has a pet possum they've somehow kept secret onboard for a year
is actually fourteen, just used her older sisters ID so everyone thinks she's 19
part of a dance crew but on hiatus cos the boyband they dance for is scandalous
parents are politically significant and treat her like a rebelling kid. she's 32
is part of an enormously complex poly marriage that encompasses like four towns
she's embarassed to be infamous on a particular space station as the best fuck
Finally reached a point w the characters in bunkmates where they can leave the ship and spend time on a fucking moon and I'm so pleased cos the world building just tumbles out so naturally for me. Thank you star trek fic for teaching me I can make anything up and it's fun. This moon has an ocean and I was like "what colour should it be, green or pink?" And so decided both, but currently pink, but it keeps changing cos they cannot manage the chemical composition and keep throwing new fixes that end up taking over and either poisoning it or monoculturing. It's currently totally overrun with pink algae. The government are very annoyed. I enjoyed writing it a whole lot
