Traverse City Turn, Part One
Here’s a series of posts with the Great Lakes Central TC Turn. This first trio of images has the train on its way back from the lumber yard in Bates with a couple of empty center-beam cars.
That’s Grand Traverse Bay, East Arm in the background; we’re looking down Bunker HIll Road—in Acme, Michigan. The rail line is the former Chicago & West Michigan/Pere Marquette.
Three images by Richard Koenig; taken August 12th 2021.

Exploring Bunker Hill, U.S.S. Constitution, and the Korean War Memorial was so unbelievable. Trying to fathom that your standing on land where great American history was made was incredible! And honoring my family at the Korean War Memorial was an honor. 💕 #bunkerhill #charlestown #ussconstitution #massachusettskoreanwarveteransmemorial #bostonnavalshipyard (at Bunker Hill) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNve4bEhrs9/?igshid=1b4xwhrn5fpfx
It’s always gonna bother me that Goodneighbor and Bunker Hill are such small towns
Like ok, Fallout 4 gives a perfectly valid reason for why there’s only 3 major settlements at the start of the game. All the other ones have been destroyed and due to the synth threat people have been sticking to smaller groups. It makes sense and helps encourage the player to build up their own settlements.
But couldn’t they have done more with the major settlements? I guess the argument could be made that since the player gets to build in Bunker Hill that I could fix the problem myself, but that comes later in the game and Bunker Hill just doesn’t hold up to the title of a doing-alright trade post by itself, it’s supposed to be holding its own and yet it looks like it’s slowly dying out.
And Goodneighbor! It could have been Bethesda’s answer to New Vegas, it could have been so much more than a ramshackle back alley that’s only big enough to support the few buildings that are there. It SHOULD have been bigger! Maybe not as big as Diamond City, but big enough to hold its own as an alternative. and it should have had its own player home and this is the hill I die on
